In 2005, Cristiana Serenity Casillas, who was affectionately known to many as Serenity, was 3-years old when she was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer in the form of a Wilms tumor. Serenity bravely battled cancer for two years and ultimately lost her battle when she was 5-years old. Following Serenity’s passing to heaven, Serenity’s parents, Adrian and Valery Casillas, along with a group of others who loved, and were loved by Serenity formed a group to comfort each other and honor Serenity’s life and legacy. The group has evolved over the years and is now known as Serenity’s Legacy. Serenity’s Legacy is ministry whose objective is to help local children and their families who are fighting cancer. Serenity’s Legacy also provides support to local families dealing with the death of a minor child.
Each year in February, Serenity’s Legacy hosts Serenity’s Sweetheart Banquet, which is a fundraiser in honor of Serenity. The event provides an atmosphere for couples to enjoy a fun and memorable night together. The proceeds from this event go to Serenity’s Legacy’s objective.
